Duke of Cornwall breaks ground for islands health and social care facility
An exciting milestone for the Isles of Scilly Health and Social Care Facility took place last week with the Duke of Cornwall breaking ground on the site as part of his visit to the Islands.
The project is a collaboration between: Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust; Council of the Isles of Scilly; primary care; Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust; South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust; voluntary sector partners; mental health services. All partners are working in collaboration with the Duchy of Cornwall.
Community 1st has been appointed to provide project management and procurement services on behalf of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Bluesky architects have been appointed to provide lead architectural and healthcare planning services.
Ken Jones, General Manager, Community 1st Cornwall said ‘This project represents a significant investment into health and social care for the islands. The design will utilise a modern method of construction developed off island then integrated with the refurbishment of the existing hospital. Our NHS colleagues and the whole design team are working collaboratively together to deliver on a rapid project programme to ensure we have the best opportunity for transportation of construction materials to the island during the summer months when the weather is good. It’s a great team effort and we are all looking forward to seeing the project progress from this significant milestone with the Duke of Cornwall breaking ground on the site’.
