Celebrating 25 years of Supporting Neighbourhood Health

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the #NHSLIFT programme, with Community 1st and its private sector investor Equity Solutions joining other LIFTco’s / investors and members of The LIFT Council (the membership body for LIFT investors), to celebrate this highly successful public-private-partnership that has delivered quality neighbourhood health facilities across England in areas of the highest deprivation and health need over the last 25 years.

Established in 2001, the NHS LIFT Programme has delivered 350 new healthcare buildings, with 9 in every 10 LIFT buildings being in areas with above average health needs, delivering vital facilities to those who need them most. As a result, the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan sets out plans for a series of new neighbourhood health centres that would  “build on the successful NHS LIFT programme”.

Community 1st is the local LIFTco partner in Oldham, Sheffield and Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, investing in 19 community-based health premises in the heart of local communities, making a significant social impact to these areas.

The LIFT PPP model success is due to long term partnership, risk transfer to the private sector, no backlog maintenance and adaptability of the estate to respond to changing health needs.

As a result of LIFT’s key role in the community, the first wave of 27 new neighbourhood health centres announced by the Government earlier this year includes plans to upgrade 11 existing NHS LIFT facilities, ensuring the LIFT estate is already at the heart of future neighbourhood health provision.

Kate Edwards, Health Development Director said:

‘The NHS LIFT partnership continues to demonstrate its relevance as a model to deliver more neighbourhood health services, with LIFT schemes such as Truro Health Park demonstrating the speed that neighbourhood health services can be introduced into existing premises. We continue to work closely with local NHS partners to evolve our LIFT premises to support the delivery of NHS strategic priorities in our local communities.
