Community 1st Engages Local School in Isles of Scilly Health and Social Care Project

Community 1st recognise the huge impact that the new Isles of Scilly Integrated Health and Social Care facility will have for islanders. This project represents a significant investment by the NHS into health and social care services, which will leave a lasting legacy for the local community.

As the project delivery partner, Community 1st and the wider project team aim to ensure we maximise social value impact during the construction phase.

As part our social value commitments the Community 1st team was invited to Five Islands Academy, St Mary’s, where we were joined by representatives from our project delivery team tms, METS Ltd, and HULLEY & KIRKWOOD LIMITED to talk about careers in the design and construction industry and the wide range of roles and skills needed to make this local project a reality.

Together, we shared insights into our various responsibilities, individual career paths, and how we collaborate to deliver the new Health and Social Care facility on the island to design a building that meets the NHS service needs, as well the unique logistics that are required to get all the construction modular units, materials, and equipment to the island.

The school were engaged to learn about the diverse journeys that led to the positions our project delivery team hold today. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the next generation and showcase the wide range of opportunities available within our industry.

We’re looking forward to returning to Five Islands Academy and have plans to arrange school visits to the project site. Additionally, we’ve provided information for students interested in work experience, offering insight not just into our specific roles but into the broader opportunities within the industry.

We are excited to continue fostering these local community connections to help make the design and construction industry more inclusive.
