New Health and Social Care facility for Isles of Scilly

We are excited to announce Community 1st Cornwall’s involvement in a new project that will transform health and social care service for the Isles of Scilly.

The project has recently secured national funding for the development of an integrated model of care that supports the needs of the island communities. This project will revolutionise the way care is delivered, extending the existing St. Mary’s community hospital to provide brand new accommodation for Adult Social Care Services. It will provide 12 residential care home beds, NHS inpatient beds, and a modern maternity suite. Other outpatient services will continue. These include x-ray, minor injury unit, dental and consulting rooms.

Community 1st has been appointed to provide project management and procurement services on behalf of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Bluesky architects have been appointed to provide architectural and healthcare planning services.

Due to the logistics of developing a project of this size on the Island, key elements of the build will be manufactured on the mainland and shipped to the island.

In just six months the dedicated NHS and Community 1st project team have achieved an incredible milestone, securing NHS approval of the business case and funding. With planning submitted and awaiting approval, enabling works are due to start in April 2024. The facility is due to be finished by summer 2025.

Community 1st Cornwall is the local estate management partner for the NHS, supporting projects large and small, working in partnership with our NHS colleagues to deliver NHS estate improvements and modern health and social care premises that continue to respond to local health and service needs.
